When is one big unit the wrong choice?

When the space is L-shaped or broken up, or the calculator says 10 kW or more. One high-wall unit can't push air round corners, so we'll suggest a multi-split or ducted system on a custom quote instead.

How much does a large heat pump cost installed?

Top5.nz's August 2026 guide puts a large open-plan high-wall install at $4,500 to $6,500, typically $5,500. Our fixed price is published once the installer for your region is contracted.

Does a large unit need a bigger electrical supply?

Larger units draw more current and some need their own circuit. The installer's site check looks at your switchboard; any electrical work beyond the standard install is priced before you accept.

Is a large heat pump loud outside?

Larger outdoor units are louder, and councils set noise limits at the boundary. The site check picks a position that meets them. See noise and council rules.
