Who sells Toshiba heat pumps in New Zealand?

AHI Carrier New Zealand Ltd is the authorised distributor of Carrier and Toshiba heating and air conditioning products in New Zealand. It issues the NZ warranty, and units are sold and installed through installers and some retailers.

What does the Toshiba 10-year warranty actually cover?

AHI Carrier's 10-year residential warranty applies to Carrier and Toshiba air conditioning systems, including high-walls, ducted systems, floor consoles and multi-split systems, supplied by AHI Carrier NZ on or after 1 June 2025 and installed in NZ homes. Years 1 to 5 cover all parts and AHI Carrier-approved labour. Years 6 to 10 cover parts only, so you pay the labour.

• Installation must be done by a qualified technician following AHI Carrier's guidelines and the manufacturer's instructions.
• You need proof of purchase and installation details to claim, and AHI Carrier's warranty form asks for commissioning, model and serial number details.
• The warranty is valid only at the original installation address and is not transferable.
• Products supplied before 1 June 2025 stay on the warranty terms that applied when they were bought, so check the supply date of any older stock.
• Damage from poor installation, weathering or corrosive environments, and hard access costs, are excluded.

What has Consumer NZ said about Toshiba?

In its article on common heat pump buying mistakes, Consumer NZ says Toshiba is the brand it has given the lowest reliability and satisfaction scores. That finding is based on Consumer NZ's owner surveys, which are not the same as a test of a particular model. It is still worth weighing, especially alongside the long parts warranty, which reduces but does not remove the cost of a breakdown after year 5.
