Who sells Mitsubishi Electric heat pumps in New Zealand?
Black Diamond Technologies Limited (BDT) is the exclusive New Zealand distributor. It is a New Zealand-owned company with a head office in Lower Hutt and branches in Auckland and Christchurch, and it issues the NZ warranty. You buy the unit through an installer, not from BDT directly, so the installer you choose matters as much as the badge on the unit.

What is HyperCore and does it matter where you live?
HyperCore is Mitsubishi Electric's name for units guaranteed to keep delivering their full rated heating capacity down to −15°C outside. Ordinary heat pumps lose output as outdoor temperatures fall below about 7°C, which is when you need heat most. The LN Black Diamond series in 2.5–5 kW sizes comes with HyperCore as standard.
If you live in Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Queenstown or Central Otago, low-temperature output is worth paying attention to whichever brand you choose. What does the Mitsubishi Electric warranty cover in NZ?
BDT's NZ warranty gives M, S and P series split systems, and MXZ and PUMY multi-split systems including their indoor units, 5 years parts and labour against defects in materials and workmanship. BDT-supplied controllers, accessories and ducted kits get 1 year. You can register the unit at bdt.co.nz/warranty.
- The warranty covers the equipment only. Pipework, electrical cabling, drainage, ducting and heat load calculations are the installer's responsibility.
- Units imported by anyone other than BDT are not covered, so be wary of grey-import deals.
- Extra labour caused by hard-to-reach indoor or outdoor units (scaffolding, cranes, lift platforms) is excluded.
- Units in coastal, geothermal or industrial areas need suitable corrosion protection specified before installation, or corrosion failures are not treated as a manufacturing defect.
How do independent surveys rate Mitsubishi Electric?
In Canstar Blue's 2026 Most Satisfied Customers survey for heat pumps (research finalised November 2025), Mitsubishi Electric received 4 stars for overall satisfaction, behind Daikin on 5 stars. Consumer NZ also tests heat pumps and reports brand reliability and satisfaction, but its detailed results are for members only. Neither survey is a verdict on a specific model or installer.
